Forum Friday – 1,000 posts and counting!

Each Friday I like to highlight an interesting or resourceful post on the forum, to share with the wider community. Think of it as my way of saying “Thank You!” to the dozens of educators that find a little bit of time in their hectic schedules to share their thoughts and discoveries with a wider community. This week, I happened to share a brief e-mail conversation with Steve Dembo about the need for recognition, awards, and the occasional “ego-stroking”. Steve was pointing out yet another new blogging award web site, while I was questioning (a little bemoaningly) whether we needed another place to show off what we’re all doing on the web. The long and short of the matter is; yes, we do need a place and a little time for all of us to “show off.” Not necessarily all the time, but from time to time we do need to recognize achievements of our peers, and at times ourselves.

With that in mind, I was ecstatic to find that the TechSavvyEd Forum now has over 1,000 posts! For those that may not be a member of any forum, but do have connections to other people via a listserv, e-mail, or other communication tool, you know that for a group of educators, volunteering their time, sustaining such a level of conversation, collaboration, and sharing can be incredibly difficult. So on this very special Forum Friday, I wanted to thank each and every member of the community that has donated time, energy, and their experience to making this site an important destination and source of information in the educational world. So three cheers to all of you Tech Savvy Educators out there that may be too busy to toot your own horns!

Thank you Shawn, Jim, Nicole, James, Tom W., Todd, Bud, Sean, Barbara, Rosalie, T.J., Steve, Laura, Julie, Michael, MatrixKid, Derwink, Rick, Christopher, Brian, Andy, Tom M., Josh, and Dale!

It took us all just shy of 2 years to get to 1,000 posts; let’s see if we can get to 2,000 in half that time!

  1. Ben,

That’s awesome. You’ve put in a lot of work yourself, don’t forget that! This is a great place and we’ve got you to thank.

    Good job,

    Tom

  2. I would also say, yes, thank you for lugging the thing along, even though it goes quiet sometimes when everyone wanders off at once. Just like mom and dad, we expect you to be here when we decide to come back. Preferably with some food on the table.

Ummmmm, are you using your car tonight….?

  3. Hey, ditto to Andy’s comment. I wish I had the time to go to all the other (good) sites out there but I don’t. I stay more or less (big learning curve) up to date here.
Besides, Andy can’t have the car tonight, IT’S MY TURN!

  4. LOL, now now. If you take the car, remember, you have to fill it with gas and check the tires before you return it.

Andy, I think that most of education, if not life in general, is driven by the bom and bust cycle of “do you have enough time in the day” to get everything accomplished that you would like. However, I have noticed, and appreciated, a nice steady stream of informatiom and discussion on the forum this past month.

Perhaps a few updates, and some interesting plugins that make the forum a little easier to use and navigate might help this summer.
