And the Lenovo ThinkCentre m90z Winner Is…

Janet Robles is the winner! Congratulations Janet, your poem was selected at random from the 79 entries received this last week! Using‘s true random number generator, Janet’s poem was the 20th response to the original contest entry, and thus the winner of a brand new Lenovo ThinkCentre m90z. Janet’s poem is a modified diamante, with 5 lines rather than the traditional 7, and it’s a nice little poem about the topic of the contest, a Lenovo: Lenovo Sleek computing Touchscreen fast connection Power to my students Thinkcentre There were LOTS of fantastic poems, and as the last day of April, and National Poetry Month, I would encourage you to go back and read through all of the thoughtful, humorous, and reflective poems about technology. Feel free to use the poems with your students, in a presentation, or perhaps as a consolation prize if you weren’t chosen. It’s not everyday...

Write a Poem, Win a Lenovo m90z ThinkCentre!

Apr 25, 2011 by

The special day has finally arrived! Today, April 25th, marks the start of my giveaway contest for a brand new Lenovo m90z ThinkCentre desktop computer. It’s big, it’s shiny, and if you’re the lucky winner you’ll be able to smudge the screen to your hearts’ desire because this thing has touch input! At 23 inches, and a full multi-touch experience, this computer would be great in an elementary classroom as a touch-powered, interactive digital learning center, useful for students with fine motor control problems preventing keyboard and mouse interaction, or as a learning kiosk in a public place within your school building. There are many more uses, but I’ll let the winner decide how they’re going to use it! “How do you enter to Win?!” Since it’s National Poetry Month, I thought it would be fitting for everyone to dust off their inner poet, and write a poem about...

I’m Giving Away a Computer!

Apr 15, 2011 by

I try to reserve Fridays for more thoughtful and reflective posts, something to mull around in my head to keep the brain from going to mush over the weekend (it rarely works). However, on the occasional Friday I also love to give away FREE brand new computers! Alright, so I’ve never actually given away any computers before, but I will be soon! Lenovo, makers of the popular ThinkPad laptops, recently teamed up with with a promotional partner to put the really cool touch-screen powered Lenovo m90z ThinkCentre in the hands of some prominent education bloggers. I’ve been putting the machine through it’s paces, and there are a lot of really engaging reasons to have a machine like this in your classroom; huge screen, responsive touch, and it makes for a really cool interactive learning center! And guess what? Lenovo is giving me another brand new one to give away! Huzzah!  ...

Lenovo ThinkCentre Touch Screen Edu-Smack Down – The Web

Apr 11, 2011 by

Back in February I was sent a Lenovo ThinkCentre m90z demo unit with the hopes that I would put it through it’s paces to see how effective it could be in the classroom. I’ve created a few short videos depicting how well it handled both Tux Paint and Google Earth, but over the weekend I decided to put it up against the biggest educational tool in a teacher’s arsenal; the web. To be fair, I only tested a handful of websites, but I tried to cover a large swath of subject areas, and grade levels. However, the four websites I choose (Starfall, Kerpoof, Virtual Math Manipulatives, and Gliffy) represent a lot of different ways to interact with a computer, and the internet. There’s everything from media consumption and manipulation, to concept mapping and experimentation with digital simulation. I think the Lenovo m90z is shaping up to be a great...

Lenovo ThinkCentre Touch Screen Edu-Smack Down – Tux Paint

Feb 17, 2011 by

Awhile ago I was contacted by one of those “influencer” networks that have been slowly creeping into the blogosphere after years of supplying mainstream media types with fancy gadgets and demo units to show off and explore with the public consumer in mind. So in the interest of full disclosure, I happily received a brand new Lenovo ThinkCentre m90z (a big fancy title for one of those nice all in one desktop computers, with a fancy touch screen). It’s a really BIG machine for a desktop unit, measuring in at a whopping 23 inches, and it’s actually pretty cool to watch my Kindergarten-age daughter playing with it. It takes up a good portion of our computer desk at home, and when I first took it out of the box I thought to myself, “Wow, if any schools really wanted to outfit a lab with these things, they’d have to...
